Release 6.02

August 1, 2000

Change Request

Enhancement: The following new options are added at the OID Level:

  • Allow multiple changes per Change Request. If you specify NO, then only one change per entry in DS List will be allowed. When FULL CHANGE is made, then the Change Request will be treated as CLOSED.
  • DSNAME and/or member name can be masked in Change Request. If you specify No, then the full dataset name and member name must be specified in Dataset List.
  • REINIT Command allowed in Change Request. If you specify NO, then, the REINIT Command will not be allowed if at least one change has been made against the Change Request.

External Logging

Enhancement: The following new Sub-Types are added:

  • Sub-type 0A: Updates to Dataset Options (DS Level)
  • Sub-type 0B: Updates to Dataset Options (Member Level)

Records for Sub-types 08,09,0A,0B will now be written to the Change Action Database, whether they are being written to an external dataset or not. These records are for changes to different options in Change Action. A record will contain the old and the new values of the options. The display program will show these values, with the changed values high-lighted.

The records on the database will be deleted automatically if they are more than 30 days old. If you wish to keep a specific Sub-type for more or less than 30 days, then you can modify the number on the External Logging Options panel.

Command tracking and control component

Enhancement: Prior to 6.02, the RACF interface of the command tracking and control component was used to determine whether a user was allowed to issue a certain command. Now the RACF Interface has been enhanced to allow the specification of:

  • Which users can update a specific entry for a command definition
  • Which users (besides a Global Administrator) can add, update or delete any entry in the command definition table.

The Resource Names to be defined to RACF are displayed on the panel(s).

Compare/change distribution

Enhancement: A new batch utility has been developed to do the following. If you are interested, please call Action Software for more information.

  • Compare volumes or specific datasets at two Changeplexes (or at the same Changeplex).
  • PDS and sequential datasets are compared.
  • Using a skeleton job, build NDM job(s) for changed datasets and members.
  • Place the job(s) in a dataset. The job(s) can be submitted after reviewing.

Note: The batch utility can be initially built by using the Compare Option.

E-mail messages from Change Action

Enhancement: Usually, Change Action sends messages to a user by using the SEND command.

You now have to choice of sending these messages to users by e-mail, provided the user has provided an e-mail address on the User Information panel (option U from the primary selection panel). This enhancement makes use of the SMTP feature of OS/390 TCP/IP.

To enable the use of e-mail for messaging, a Global Administrator must provide parameters using global option “H” (list of hosts).

This release supports e-mail messaging for the following two types of messages:

  • Change request approval required.
  • Change made to datasets.

Future versions will support e-mail for more messages. We welcome user feedback regarding this feature.
